Press Conference of Civil Security Hub Poland
On March 5, 2026, a press conference was held in Warsaw to announce the start of operational activities of the Civil Security Hub Poland and to present the results of its preparatory phase. CS Hub PL is the first civil security entity of its kind in Europe and forms part of the European Space Agency’s (ESA) new initiative, Space Resilience Nodes. The event brought together representatives of the companies and institutions co-creating the Hub, special guests - users benefiting from its support - as well as members of the media.

Overwatch Wildfire Pilot Demonstration in Portugal
The first of two pilot demonstrations of the Overwatch project took place in Portugal on 28-30 October 2025. The exercise was conducted at the Santa Margarita Military Camp and the Emergency Military Support Unit in Abrantes, simulating response actions to a large-scale wildfire.

Decision-making game at the Lubuskie Provincial Office
The two-day dedicated decision-making game, organised by the Fire Academy and the Crisis Information Centre CBK PAN in cooperation with the Department of Security and Crisis Management of the Lubuskie Province Office (LUW), took place on 9-10 October 2025 at the LUW headquarters in Gorzów Wielkopolski, Poland. The game was one of the key activities of the Localience project.

CIK Activation: local flooding in the Vistula Fens
As a result of heavy rainfall in northern Poland at the end of July 2025, the Crisis Information Centre of the CBK PAN was asked to activate as part of the Poland Civil Security Hub. The area of particular interest became the Vistula Fens, where in several places dikes broke or leaked and flooded surrounding meadows or farmland.

DRIVER+ received Security Innovation Award 2025
On 24 June in Warsaw, the European Commission awarded its Security Innovation Award for 2025 as part of the Security Research Event. The thematic award for the “best open-source innovation” was granted to DRIVER+, in which CBK PAN participated as a project consortium partner.

Participation of CIK CBK PAN in the “BISKUPIA KOPA 2025” Central Operational Reserve KSRG Exercise
Crisis Information Centre (CIK CBK PAN) participated, as a coordinator of the evaluation of selected innovative solutions, in the State Fire Service exercise "Biskupia Kopa 2025". The tests included an active drone positioning system based on LoRaWAN transmitters (independent of the GSM network, developed together with the KW PSP in Białystok), drone fleet management tools and the Galileo EWSS satellite system for direct alerting of the population. The Centre's representatives supported the Air Operations Coordination team and demonstrated Polish methods of operation to UAV specialists from 5 EU countries as part of the COLLARIS2 project.

COLLARIS Network: COLLaborative network on unmanned AeRIal Systems will continue its activities
Building upon the results of the COLLARIS Network, this project aims to continue, expand and further develop the already established international network of crisis management and civil protection practitioners, research institutions and public administration interested in collecting and transferring knowledge, exchanging experiences, skills, good practices and information on operational procedures for the optimal use of drones in crisis management and rescue missions.

On February 18, 2025, the "Drones in Crisis Management" conference took place in Warsaw, organised as part of the Polish-Norwegian bilateral CoSky initiative. This initiative is funded under the "Internal Affairs" Program, implemented within the framework of the Norwegian and EEA Grants for 2014-2021.

How were drones and geo-information analysis used to support emergency service operations during the recent flooding in southern Poland? What practical benefits did their widespread use bring, and what difficulties and problems were encountered? Partial answers to these questions are provided by Sławomir Kosieliński's independent reporter's report compiled on the occasion of the Polish-Norwegian bilateral initiative CoSky, funded by the “Internal Affairs” Program implemented under the Norwegian and EEA Funds 2014-2021.

CoSky - Study Visit to Norway
From January 20 to 22, 2025, the Crisis Information Centre (CBK PAN) team, together with representatives of Polish rescue services and police, participated in a study visit to Norway organized under the bilateral CoSky initiative. The visit aimed to exchange experiences and gain knowledge about best practices in complex air operations involving drones and manned aviation, as well as UAV mapping for crisis management purposes.

CoSky - Polish-Norwegian bilateral initiative for increased efficiency of use of drones in civil protection
In October 2024, the Polish - Norwegian bilateral initiative CoSky was launched under the Program "Internal Affairs", implemented within the framework of the Norwegian Financial Mechanism and the EEA Grants 2014 - 2021. The program is managed by the Polish Ministry of the Internal Affairs and Administration. Led by the Crisis Information Centre of the Space Research Centre of the Polish Academy of Sciences (CIK CBK PAN) in collaboration with Norway's Directorate for Civil Protection (DSB) and the company Tiepoint, this initiative seeks to enhance the efficiency of drone use in civil protection in Poland and Norway.

CIK participates in the Provincial Crisis Exercise "Bieszczady 2024"
On November 26-27, 2024, the Podkarpackie Voivodeship hosted a large-scale crisis exercise “Bieszczady 2024.” Organized by the Provincial Crisis Management Team, the event aimed to strengthen collaboration among public administration, rescue services, and military in responding to diverse palette of risks.
